This course meets and exceeds the requirements laid down by Ofsted and SureStart for people needing a 2 day 12 contact hour first aid course for Adult, infant and child. This group includes childminders and carers. The HSE recommend that all first aiders complete an annual first aid refresher courses and our online course meets this requirement. If you want an online only course then the Pro Paediatric course is ideal.
If you want to save time in the classroom but still meeting the required hours we offer a blended version where you complete half the course using our video online training then attend one day in the classroom. Click here for more details.
Course Aims and Learning Outcomes
- After this course the student will have a greater understanding of the possible injuries and illnesses that could affect and infants and children. Also to know that gaining immediate professional care is vital to ensure that pain and suffering is reduced as much as possible. It is aimed at carers working without the parents being present.
- To introduce basic first aid skills ensuring that the EMS are called and professional medical help gained. This will give the skills needed to deal with emergence.
- To learn to be aware of the different accidents and illnesses that involve children
- To get students thinking about possible dangers, therefore reducing the chance of an accident happening. Also to understand accident planning and emergency plans
- To ensure all students know the importance of immediate professional care and how to activate it
- Carry out Basic Life Support skills on adults, infants and children and know the differences in these age groups. These to include CPR, Chest only CPR, Choking and the importance of AED units
- Understand childhood illnesses and injuries and how to treat them
- To understand what to do in the absence of parents in an emergency
- Understand first aid regulations and first aid kits recommended for children as well as correct accident reporting
- Recognising and acting appropriately to the following: shock, anaphylactic shock, electric shock, bleeding, burns, scalds, fractures, head, neck and back injuries.
- Recognising and acting appropriately to the following: Poisoning, foreign bodies (ears, eyes and nose), eye injuries, bites, stings, and the effects of heat and cold.
- Recognising and acting appropriately to the following: Febrile convulsions and responding appropriately to the emergency needs of children with chronic medical conditions including meningitis, epilepsy, asthma, sickle cell anemia and diabetes.
